Butterball Smallmouth Leaves Angler Shaking
We all know the feeling when we catch a butterball smallmouth that leaves you shaking with the adrenaline pumping.
You know how it feels when that beautiful moment presents itself. Whether it was in the woods or on the water, we all have just a handful of moments where we thought, “This is it.” The time spent sitting in the woods and seeing nothing, casting countless times without yielding results and missing opportunities make the payoff even sweeter.
As soon as it happens, it’s hard to come back down to earth. You’ve become so accustomed to failing, mastering only the art of patience, that it’s difficult to imagine it actually happening.
The target in this case, however, is neither a Boone & Crockett buck nor a record-breaking blue marlin. Professional angler Joe Ford takes on a 7-pound, 15-ounce smallmouth bass, which happens to be his new personal best. This is something on a smaller scale that will pump your adrenaline just as hard. Joe Ford uploaded the video of the butterball smallmouth catch on to his Facebook page.

Largemouth fans probably don’t realize what an incredible catch this is, but those of us who fish the clearer water up north dream of hooking a fish of this size. As someone who has caught smallies half as big as this guy, I can relate to his excitement throughout the entire video.
This 8-pound, almost 22-inch beast of a smallmouth bass was quite the catch. The Enigma HPT 7-foot medium-heavy rod rigged with 8-pound braid tied to 8-pound fluorocarbon was the right tool for the job as proven by this incredible capture, which no doubt created a moment that any angler would remember forever. To recreate this memorable experience, you can use the same setup and head out to Lake Simcoe in Durham, Ontario for your chance at glory.
Joe, you caught one big butterball! Congrats!
