This poor fisherman was caught in an absolutely terrifying situation far out at sea…and luckily lived to tell the tale. 25-year-old Charles Gregory had a routine fishing trip off the coast of Florida one day. Unfortunately, it turned into a nightmare come to life.

One Friday morning he was hit by a large wave near St. Augustine, leaving him struggling for his life at sea. He ended up spending 38 hours fighting to survive and eventually being rescued by the US Coast Guard plane.

Charles set out on a normal fishing trip, but this was no ordinary day for him. The 12-foot boat he was in was slammed by a sizable wave near St. Augustine, which caused it to partially sink and leave Gregory with no way back to shore except swimming or treading water for hours on end while trying to keep the boat afloat.

During this ordeal he faced danger from jellyfish stings and sharks circling him while also suffering from dehydration and sunburns due to the sweltering heat conditions in the ocean during daytime hours and chilly temperature at nightfall which lead him vomiting seven times due to hypothermia symptoms.

Gregory’s family reported him missing after he didn’t return home as expected, assisting greatly in his rescue mission that eventually located him safe but exhausted after all these ordeals at sea.

In addition his employer The Surf Station posted about his story on their Facebook page which included some more details about what had happened such as how Charles lost all his possessions including clothing items like life jacket, hat and sunglasses that were washed away by the huge wave; not mentioning other belongings such as radio or flares that sank down deep into the depths of the ocean below him.

The 25 year old angler expressed how much gratitude he felt towards his family members who helped get him found saying “it sounds cheesy but I couldn’t help the thought of them not knowing… whatever happened to me if I were not to make it”.

His dad Raymond Gregory stated “he said he’s had more conversations with God in those 30 hours than he’s had in his whole life” showing how desperate yet faith-driven moments can be when facing deathly situations like this one Charles endured during those long 38 hours stuck at sea with no hope until finally rescued thanks to everyone’s quick actions involved in finding him again safe and sound.
