Missing Fisherman Found After Two Weeks [Details]

This shocking tale of survival just goes to show that miracles really do happen out there in the world. Back on October 12, two fishermen left Westport, Washington on a 43-foot boat named Evening and were expected to return on October 15.

When they didn’t return on time, the Coast Guard was alerted and began an extensive search of 14,000 square miles along the coastline. Unfortunately, their efforts yielded no results and after eight hours they had to call off the search.

However, a Canadian vessel spotted something floating in the distance 70 miles away from Cape Flattery: it was an unidentified fisherman who had been alone on a life raft for 13 days. This incredible story is one that will remind us all of how precious life can be.

Ryan Planes and his uncle John from Sooke, British Columbia were out fishing early with friends when they noticed something drifting in the distance. Ryan quickly grabbed binoculars to get a closer look and saw that it was actually an individual on a life raft. He then saw them shoot off a flare prompting him to rush onto their boat to rescue them.

John said that upon being rescued he gave them “a big hug” which must have been quite emotional after being stranded alone at sea for so long. The man reportedly survived by eating salmon during his two week ordeal but he was obviously still hungry as he drank three bottles of water once brought onto their boat.

They soon contacted the Canadian Coast Guard who took him ashore where he is now reported to be in stable condition according to USCG Pacific Northwest.

The reason why this tragedy occurred remains unknown as USCG public affairs specialist Petty Officer 1st Class Travis Magee stated that “the cause of the incident resulting in the missing vessel and the individual being found aboard the life raft is currently under investigation” though Magee did take time to remind people about how important having access to emergency items such as a life raft can be since it greatly increases your chances of survival if you ever find yourself stranded at sea without help around you or shore insight.

Sadly, despite this miracle rescue story there is still one fisherman unaccounted for as all searches have been suspended due to lack of leads leading authorities towards finding any evidence regarding his whereabouts or condition.
