This one Florida fisherman learned his lesson the hard way when he chose not to listen to his buddy’s warning about washing his hands off in the water while they were in the heart of the Everglades. Within a brief instant, the man was bitten and dragged into the water, leaving those watching the video completely horrified.
Florida is often seen as an idyllic holiday destination, with its beautiful coastline and warm weather. But locals know that beneath the surface of this sunny state lurks great danger.
A recent video has emerged showing a terrifying attack in the infamous Everglades, which nearly cost one young man his life. It’s a stark reminder to all visitors and locals alike to be aware of their surroundings while out on the water.
Michael Russo was out fishing with a friend, identified only as Nick, when they started cleaning up after their haul. With no warning whatsoever, a lemon shark suddenly lunged up from below and latched onto Nick’s right hand, yanking him headfirst into the water.
Miraculously he managed to break free before any more serious damage could be done but it was enough for Michael to make sure everyone understands how dangerous these waters can be.
It’s not just lemon sharks that fishermen need to be wary of either; there are many predators lurking in Florida’s waters which even experienced anglers fear. Sharks have learned to associate boat motors with fish so they tend to congregate around popular fishing spots; this increases both the likelihood you’ll lose your catch and also puts your safety at risk too.
The only recorded attacks on human beings by these creatures have been in Florida or nearby Caribbean waters so if you’re planning on visiting or living here it pays to know what you’re getting into.
In light of Michael’s experience, it’s important for us all take extra caution when we’re out fishing or swimming offshore; even two seconds is enough time for one of these beasts to strike.
Fortunately Nick escaped without injury but it serves as an important lesson for us all – stay vigilant when out at sea.
