Georgia Man Sets New Behemoth Record
When it comes to fishing, you can’t really find many places a lot better than the great state of Georgia.
I’ve been to Georgia on fishing trips more times than I can probably count. My grandfather’s younger brother was a preacher in Georgia, and we would drive down from North Carolina about once a year for a week.
If we weren’t at church with Uncle Freddie, then we were out on the small lake by his house fishing.
One year, we got down there and he decided to change things up a bit.
Freddie’s vacation time coincided with us coming down there, and he had decided to drive down to St. Simons Island so we could do some fishing there.
I swear, some of the fish we caught could have rivaled the loaves and fishes of that wedding feast in The Bible.
We went about two or three times to St. Simons Island and I have to say it was one of the most beautiful memories of my entire growing up.
One fish that we used to catch quite a bit down there was almaco jack.
Now, the ones that we would catch weren’t exactly any world beaters.
We weren’t breaking records by any stretch of the imagination. However, someone caught a almaco jack recently that even Uncle Freddie would have fainted over.
James Thompson is a twenty one year old fisherman who was fishing offshore of the island recently and managed to land an absolute monster of an almaco jack.
This behemoth weighed in at twenty seven pounds and eight ounces.
This one was so big that it set a brand new record in the state of Georgia for a fish of that species.
Any time that someone catches a fish so big that it sents a record, it is bound to be a boon to the local area.
“Mr. Thompson’s new record showcases Georgia’s coastal waters as an exciting and unique opportunity for anglers of all ages,” said Tyler Jones, coordinator of the Georgia Saltwater Game Fish Records Program.
Hopefully this shines a brighter light on a spot that I have been fishing at since my preacher uncle took me there so many years ago.
