Man Tragically Drowns On Fishing Trip In [Details]
When I was a kid and would go fishing, my dad always had a rule that as a kid I thought was sort of ridiculous. As I have gotten older, I have come to the conclusion that he was right.
Every single time he went fishing and his feet were not solidly on dry land, he would wear a life jacket. He would make us wear them. Even if we were on the end of a pier, we would have to wear one.
Sure, it was a bit of a pain in the neck to have to wear a life vest when the closest your body got to actually being wet that day were the Pepsi you brought along hitting your tongue.
But as we have unfortunately learned so many times, tragedy can come out of nowhere and comes at you with as much force as a runaway train.
Recently in Ohio, a forty-four-year-old man named John Wisener drowned while on a late-night fishing excursion. At around 1am , John suddenly fell into a Summit County lake. An officer who also happened to be on the scene jumped into the lake to try and find John’s body.
They were unfortunately not able to recover him until early the next morning. At the moment, nobody knows yet what caused him to fall out of the boat.
Judging by the fact that this was an apparent drowning, the information that we have to go on at this time would lead me to conclude that he was not wearing a life jacked.
Now I totally understand what my father was saying all those years ago about life jackets.
When you are out on the water, you can never be too careful when it comes to your own safety.
I actually keep an extra life jacket in my truck in the event I am going somewhere and find myself in the position of being on a boat.
Also, we all need to exercise extreme caution when you are fishing at night.
Always let people know where you are going to be.
Always bring someone along whenever you can. This death was a tragedy that could have been avoided if a life jacket had been used..
