Massive River Monster Caught [Video]
Every once in a while when you are out on the water, you will find a fish that could reasonably be described as an absolute monster.
Now, these monsters come in various classifications.
You might have caught a monster that you would call that because it was unusually large.
You might also catch one you call a monster just because it is as ugly as anything you have ever seen.
Catching a strange looking fish is always something that’s kind of fun in its own little way. If you fish the same waters for most of your life, you will often find that one fish tends to look a little bit like the last hundred you’ve caught.
It is when you get one that is absolutely memorable just for it’s strangeness that you get to experience one of the many things that makes fishing so enjoyable.
For example, I have gone fishing on the Delaware River plenty of times and I know that there are some real monster fish under the surface.
I mean, with all of the folks out on the river hauling in thirty pound catfish and the occasional possibility of Atlantic sturgeon popping in to say hello every now and then; you never really know what you are going to find.
Recently, someone on the Delaware River caught something that you have to say is pretty darned high on the monster scale: a Northern snakehead.
“Northern snakeheads are voracious predators and may cause declines in important sport fisheries, such as bass and panfish, and may inhibit recovery efforts for species of conservation concern in the region such as American shad and Chesapeake logperch,” Sean Hartzell, Fish and Boat Commission aquatic invasive species coordinator said in a news release a year ago.
Zach Young caught one recently and that particular Northern snakehead came in at thirty-one inches long and weighed somewhere around eight and a half pounds.
Snakeheads were first confirmed to be in the state of Pennsylvania about two decades ago and have been seen in the area on occasion every since.
If you do catch one, make sure that you have a camera ready because the fish is so unusual looking that nobody is going to believe what it looks like unless you show them.
