The Fish Was Too Big For Their Boat…

To this day, I remember the biggest fish I ever caught when I was growing up in a small town on Lake Huron in Michigan.

It was a twelve-pound walleye. I was fourteen, and had spent the day out on the boat with my dad. We were about to bring the boat in after a long day when all of a sudden I felt something pulling on my hook.

It probably wasn’t as much of a struggle as I remember it, but when I saw what at the time was the biggest fish I had caught growing up on the lake.

I’ve caught bigger fish since then, but there is always something about the first one that you considered a monster.

One thing that I can definitely tell you about that walleye is that while it was big, it was definitely small enough to fit in the cooler on the ride back to the boat launch.

Dad didn’t exactly have to tow it on the side of the boat.

Sam Cassida is a fisherman that recently had this particular problem. He was in Maine, fishing with some business clients from Utah when they hooked a bluefin tuna.

Now, those of you that are familiar with fishing for bluefin tuna know that these things can get massive.

The record for a bluefin tuna is close to fifteen hundred pounds, while the average one is well over five hundred pounds.

Sam was altered by some fellow fisherman in the area that there were bluefins where he and his clients were fishing, of whom it was a lifelong dream to fish for bluefin tuna.

Well, they definitely got their chance because after a good bit of struggle they managed to haul in a bluefin tuna that eventually weighed in at five hundred and seventy fix pounds.

While not a record, it was definitely a feather in the cap of these folks from Utah.

There was just one problem, it was too big for the boat.

They actually had to tie the tuna to the side of the boat and tow it all the way back to the dock.

It was well worth the effort though because the fish once it was cleaned and processed yielded around three hundred pounds of usable meat.

Definitely not bad for a day of fishing, that’s for sure.
