Video: Violent Whale Attack

When it comes to why I prefer fishing on lakes as opposed to more open water, I have one word to explain why…whales.

It’s quite simple really. When you look at the size of the average whale, some of them can grow to be the size of the average fishing boat.

And boy, are those damn whales powerful.

Added to that, I think the whales are getting smart enough to realize that they can push some of the smaller fishing boats around.

I mean, imagine if the shark from Jaws had a chainsaw and knew how to use the thing.

Take for example an incident that happened off the coast of New Hampshire recently.

A whale was mid-breach when it collided with a small fishing boat hurling the two fishermen that were on board over the side.

Two brothers named Colin and Wyatt Yager were in a nearby vessel and were able to shoot footage that accurately displayed the potential wrath of one of these beasts.

It seems that the whales in the New Hampshire area at least are beginning to get a little upset at the fact that there are so many fishing boats disturbing their environment.

After the boat was struck by the whale and the two men on board thrown over, the Yager brothers were able to successfully rescue them.

Miraculously, it seems that neither the men that were thrown over the side or the whale were injured in all of this.

It does sort of beg the question since it seems that whale attacks are becoming more common these days that we might be clogging up areas where whales are known to congregate with more boats than the area can handle.

It almost seems as if the whales attacking boats is a situation where they don’t have the room that they used to in days gone by and are acting out of frustration if not anything else.

Either way, it is just another reminder that you need to exercise as much caution as possible when you are out on the water.

You quite literally never know when a whale is going to attack your boat.
