Dramatic Whale Rescue Caught On Tape [WATCH]
If there is one thing that I know about whales, it is that they are absolutely beautiful creatures that should be protected at all costs.
I thank God every day that the horrific practice of whaling has pretty much been eradicated throughout the world with the exception of a couple of places.
That doesn’t mean that whales are not still in danger even though they are not in the main targets of the eyes and boats of fishermen anymore.
The fishing community knows that they need to protect these creatures as much as possible.
In a remarkable display of dedication and teamwork, a humpback whale and her calf were successfully disentangled from fishing gear off the coast of Massachusetts.
The dramatic rescue unfolded near Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, a well-known habitat for these majestic marine mammals.
The distress call came in from a vigilant whale watch boat that spotted the entangled humpbacks. The entanglement involved fishing lines wrapped around the mother whale’s body and her calf’s tail, posing a significant threat to their mobility and survival.
Such entanglements are, unfortunately, a common hazard for whales, leading to injuries and, in some cases, fatalities.
The rescue operation lasted several hours. The team meticulously cut through the lines, ensuring that each incision was deliberate to avoid further entangling the whales.
The mother humpback whale showed signs of exhaustion but stayed near the surface, a behavior that possibly indicated her understanding of the assistance she was receiving.
These creatures are a heck of a lot smarter than we give them any credit for.
It might be one of the reasons why folks are so quick to rescue them whenever they are in danger or distress.
There’s just something about an animal that has a level of intelligence that can look you in the eye and somehow express gratitude that you are saving its life.
The rescue of these whales is another reminder of the impact that the activities of human beings can have on marine ecosystems.
