Florida Fish Dying In Beyond Strange Manner

florida

I spend a great deal of time in Florida throughout the year, splitting my time between the Sunshine state and the state of Michigan.

You might say that I have the best of both worlds when it comes to fishing. Yes, I would say that this is entirely the case.

My Michigan fishing time is usually spent on the same lakes and rivers that I spent when I was growing up.

My Florida fishing time is either in the Gulf of Mexico or down specifically in the Florida Keys.

For two weeks out of the year, I turn my phone off except in the case of emergencies and I am out on the beach or fishing in a boat I keep down here.

I have seen a lot of interesting things over the years fishing in Florida and have caught some absolutely whopper fish.

However, when it comes to catching the fish I want to be the one to bring them in, not for them to come in on their own accord.

Which brings me to the curious case of the smalltooth sawfish. You see these every so often down here, and up until recently they have been doing just fine.

However, it seems that recently they have been doing something that just about defies the laws of nature.

I’m not telling you anything that you don’t already know but fish would much prefer spending their entire lives in the water.

They’re not too fond of not being in the water. Which is why experts in Florida are scratching their heads at why the critically endangered smalltooth sawfish are swinging in massive schools in circles, and then beaching themselves seemingly with no provocation.

For whatever reason, this specific species of fish are beaching themselves and then thrashing around on the beach until they die.

It’s something that is absolutely boggling the minds of experts in Florida, and they have launched an extensive research investigation into the matter.

It’s very troubling that an endangered fish is doing something like this. It could be due to environmental changes of some kind but at the end of the day more evidence still needs to be gathered before a conclusion can be reached.
